We don't own our own house yet. We are in two minds about wanting to do it and not wanting to do it. We'd love to be on the property ladder, have an investment for the future kids and have roots somewhere we can call our own, doing whatever we like to it. We take pride in how we live, more so recently as we got a bigger house to rent in Bournemouth than either of us have had for a while and we realised, for such a big space, we didn't have a lot to put into it.
We've tried to update little bits here and there, adding our joint touch to our first home together but for some reason we always focused on the rooms of the house where you would communally use and perhaps visitors would see. It wasn't for a while before we realised that maybe we needed to take the time to create our own little haven that only we used and saw so we decided to focus on our bedroom.
If you haven't heard of West Elm then your next open web browser needs to take you there. Its an adults mecca for playing interior designer. We feel they're product is so beautiful that truly anything you buy and put together looks incredible, I think thats when you know its a well designed brand.
So having recently teamed up West Elm and explained to them our dilemma we worked together with their design team using our taste and love of product on their website and their creative design eye to utilise the space we had into something we never want to leave!
Let us show you the before images :
I mean its not the worst room in the world but its a far cry from the best. Classic magnolia walls (whhyy ??? whyy ??) swedish branded furniture ived had for 10 years.. I mean we've collected some cool little items along the way which we knew would play into the new room nicely, but right now it just looks like a mash up mess. We like open spare but this felt uninviting, cold and we had a serious lack of storage so just seemed to be constantly littered with items around the room.
That's a big problem i think when you are renting, you are always scared to put money into furniture incase it doesn't fit at your next location. I have travelled a lot in
That's a big problem i think when you are renting, you are always scared to put money into furniture incase it doesn't fit at your next location. I have travelled a lot in the short time (medium time) i've lived and I've managed to live in around 18 different houses and in truth, i've never not been able to fit something into a new home. In fact now i don't care if i own the house or not, i want it to be ours and feel ours and thats why we felt as a married couple we should now treat ourselves to an 'adult' room!
So we reached our and used the West Elm free design service. You basically send them a bunch of inspiration and what you like from the site teamed with your room measurements and they help curate your room into your dream space! We do have lots of ideas ourselves but we wanted this to be right and so it seemed appropriate to lend an eye from the experts!
So heres some of the images we got back from the team..
We changed a few pieces around to be more our style or items we preferred but we pretty much loved what they had done and stuck to it!
So now for the grand finale....
We’ve LOVED West Elm as a furniture brand for a long time and we knew we wanted to buy their pieces for our home. Since it was so close to our style and we wanted to start with our room / haven, we knew this was the time to treat ourselves to the pieces we’d always wanted!
You can shop all of the West Elm items in the room from the images below!
While 90% of our new bedroom was from West Elm we did also have items from other cool shops we’d found during our makeover. We constantly looking at IG home accounts and drooling over the oh so many independent brands which are also kicking ass right now. We went with brands that complimented our style and also the look we’d gone for with West Elm.

This kick ass beast of a piece is by the amazingly talented Joe over at Roberston Cheney - click HERE to see a range of their awesome artwork.
For my 30th birthday party I was also surprised with an additional piece of Roberston Cheney which you may have seen on our living room wall in previous posts? My friends knew I had been lusting over a piece for some time now and it just so happened that we both ended up ordering one at the same time! They’re just too damn in sync with me!

So this is a working progress… you can see gaps and maybe its not perfect, but we loved all the pieces we had collected for it and so we’ll continue to grow it with time organically.

Bedding >>>
We will do a full post on this on its own as we learnt SO much about bedding recently! To us sleep is super important and we both love it ALOT. We have various different sleeping patterns that are the total opposite to each other and we’re obsessed about finding and creating the perfect sleep haven that suits both. After much research here is what we ended up going with and, we can safely say, we’ve never felt so good about going to bed!
Mattress - From Simba
Duvet / Pillows / Bed linen - From Tielle Love Luxury (You have to check these guys out before our next post! They supply lots of top boutique and 5 star hotels with their bedding and now you can buy a full set for your own bed at home!! DREAM!!)
We totally fell in love with hunting down all the bits and bobs for the room and just by doing that one its inspired and gave us a kick up the arse to do others, so watch out for other little updates!
It also made us realise how many amazing brands there are out there too and we’ve decided to look at creating a curated shop on the blog which will contain lots of amazing items we’ve found from around the world and the internet. We hope this room inspires you and are looking forward to the launch of our shop as much as we are!
Also, if you live in America (or are visiting soon) and you want to know what it feels like to sleep in a West Elm room… now you can! West Elm have just launched 6 of their own hotels for you to understand the luxury of living amongst the amazing West Elm furniture. Click HERE to see them!
Now the only thing left to do… Is to try and get out of the bed every day!
