We've both in our years been into vintage and in lots of ways we still are, however, that effort of going to the vintage shop and having to flick through the rails of clothes and accessories to find one piece that jumps out at you can become quiet tedious, especially with the ever growing vintage market now days. It seems to get harder and harder to find something.
Now days we are really into up-cyling, new things made from old materials or recycled into something new, so when our friends from Bearface told us about their friends they were sharing a pop up shop with in Brighton, we were instantly intrigued about who they were.
The story for Rubber killer started in Thailand with a owner Joi and when the UK manager (Charlie) was visiting the area he immediately saw the product and thought it would be a cool to bring and re-sell in to the UK market and how right he was. Rubber killer uses old tyres and inner tubes to create some amazing hard wearing bags. No two items are ever being completely the same due to the fact these guys are literally cutting up old car tyres etc rather than buying some plain boring rubber off a role.
Did you know that because tyres are made so well and for such hard use that they are really flipping difficult to recycle? A quick google and i found that the majority of tyres get sent to what they call the 'tyre graveyard' in Kuwait and theres over 7 million tyres sat there. They dig big holes for these tyres to be dumped into but theres so many you can actually see the landfill from space!!! So that makes Rubber killer extra special, utilising something which we are harmfully dumping on our earth for a greater good. Plus they look pretty damn sweet too!
Check out the website for the full range of product including rucksacks and even toiletry bags! Links are at the bottom of the post for both the bags that we are wearing.
Feel free to tell us about any other cool brands you know where products are recycled.
